About the artist

PROFILE OF CHANDAN GIRI.

  • Born : In Jammu-Tawi (Jammu & Kashmir) 1960.

Moods of the Artist

Capturing motion and abstract forms on camera remained his first love. From the very beginning images with Solarisation, multiple exposures and Photograms etc. fascinated him. In the dark-room they served basic lessons for him as he began to seek similar effect in manual colour printing and processing. This later continued with experimentation in exploring different forms through the camera lens.

In news photography it was difficult to expertise with brush, he strived to achieve the effect through the camera lens. While computer software and technology offer limitless options in experimenting with post photography processing, his effort has always centered on trying to avoid their use and capturing the same effects through camera.

His sources of images are at surprisingly negligible and tiny subjects. They are either some mute moments, and objects or consciously selected detail from them; for example a fold or a corner of mattress. He used the number of options and freedoms offered by digital camera and also observe certain conventional ethics followed in traditional photography. Many images are micro shots taken at distances five and ten centimeters from the objects and shot with a digital camera and with on line selected modes which are left untouched after the exposure.
