Raphael's Head of a Muse - Price: $47.9 million
The most expensive work on paper was sold at auction in December 2009 by Christie's London. This head is a sketch for one of the figures on the "Parnassus" wall in Vatican. Raphael's Head of a Muse, a black chalk drawing on paper, sold for $47,941,095, handily beating the estimate, which ranged till $26.3 million. It was the second highest price for an Old Master painting or drawing sold at an auction.

Raza's work fetches record Rs 16.4 cr at Christie's June 10, 2010
KOLKATA/LONDON: A painting by SH Raza sold at Christie's for £2.4 million (Rs 16.42 crore) on Thursday, making it a record for any modern or contemporary Indian work of art, said the auction house.
